A Deep Dive into Quality Materials

Hey there, lovely readers!

I've been spending the past few years researching the various substrates available to paint on - canvas (cotton, linen, how fine or rough, type of finish), wooden board (type of wood, finish to apply), or metal (copper, aluminum, even steel, and again, type of finish), and I can finally say I believe I have made my decision. I’ve never cared for the “bounce” and vulnerability of canvas, especially when I’m painting away from the studio. Wood is lovely, but can warp and is quite heavy. Let's dive into why oil paintings completed on thoughtfully prepared ACM (Aluminum Composite Material) panels ( made from an aluminum sheet sandwiched between a polyethylene core) with the highest quality oil paints and an oil-based ground (Rublev - I’ll do another blogpost on why I chose this!) are the cream of the crop when it comes to wedding paintings, and fine art in general.

  • Rock-Solid Stability:

    • Let's kick things off with durability.  ACM aluminum panels are like the superheroes of painting surfaces. They're tough, stable, and built to last. No warping, no cracking—just a solid foundation that keeps your cherished memories intact for years to come. Aluminum is inherently resistant to corrosion, rust, and other environmental factors. This feature makes ACM aluminum panels ideal for protecting the artwork from the adverse effects of moisture, pollutants, and other external elements that could compromise its integrity. The use of high-quality ACM aluminum panels in fine art is recognized for its archival properties. This means that the material is designed to resist degradation over time, ensuring that the artwork remains in excellent condition for generations to come. We're talking about a piece of art that can withstand the test of time, all while looking as stunning as the day it was painted.

  • Aesthetic Awesomeness:

    • Picture this: a smooth canvas that's practically begging to be transformed into a work of art. That's what ACM aluminum panels bring to the table. Their sleek surface provides the perfect backdrop for oil paints. The result? A painting that's bursting with color, texture, and life. From the intricate lace on your dress to the twinkling lights of your reception, every detail is brought to life in vivid, breathtaking detail.

  • Tailored to You:

    • One size fits all? Not here! We believe that your wedding painting should be as unique as you are. That's why I work closely with you to ensure that every brushstroke reflects your style, personality, and vision for your big day. I’m sanding a precut ACM panel with a palm sander, but just elbow grease and sandpaper will do the trick too. Be sure to gear up! I wipe the boards down after sanding wth alcohol to remove any grease or dust.
